Biography

Mr. Geller is the Principal of Geller Law Firm, concentrating his practice in the areas of land use, zoning and code enforcement; administrative law and lobbying; and Commercial litigation,  representing numerous local and national clients.

Mr. Geller has been practicing law in Florida since 1982. He is an "AV- Preeminent" rated attorney, AVVO rated, is or has been listed in Florida SuperLawyers, South Florida’s Top Rated Lawyers,  the Martindale-Hubbell "Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers", Lifestyle Magazine “leaders in Law”, etc. Between 2008 and his election to the Broward County Commission in 2016, Geller was a Shareholder at the AmLaw 200 firm of Greenspoon Marder, where, at various times, he chaired the Government Law Practice Group, the Zoning and Land Use Practice Group, the Gaming Law Practice Group, and the First Party Insurance Law Practice Group.

 Mr. Geller currently is a Broward County Commissioner, and is a former Mayor of Broward County. He has also served multiple terms as Chair of the South Florida Regional Planning Council (SFRPC). Mr. Geller was a member of the Florida Legislature for 20 years, where he served as the Minority Leader of the Florida Senate.  He served two terms as Chair of the Broward County Legislative Delegation, and two terms as Chair of the Hendry County Legislative Delegation. He was appointed as a Committee Chair by Presiding Officers of both political parties. Among his Committee Chairmanships was the Comprehensive Planning Committee, which regulated local governments and growth management in Florida. He has also served as National President of both the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) and the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States (NCLGS). He is the General Counsel of NCLGS. He has been a frequent speaker across the country on both gambling and insurance issues, and has spoken frequently in Florida on local government and growth management issues. He is the long-time Chair of the Broward County Water Advisory Board.

Mr. Geller has received far too many awards to list here, including the Senator of the Year Award from the Florida League of Cities, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Florida Association of Counties, the Legislator of the Year Award from the Florida AFL-CIO and the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association, as well as Legislative awards from the Police Benevolent Association, the Professional Firefighters, and numerous attorney groups. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC), and has served as Chair or Vice Chair of various FAC Committees. Through his leadership on FAC and the SFRPC, as well as his service in the Legislature, Geller knows elected officials throughout Florida.

Mr. Geller was born in New York, New York, in 1958. He has lived in South Florida since 1965. He attended Florida State University for college and law school, where he was a member of AEPi Fraternity. He has lived in South Broward since his graduation from Florida State University College of Law in 1982. Geller was the longtime Chair of the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center in Dania Beach, Florida.
